Americans, word on Reddit is that physicians are getting slammed with reproductive health appointment requests. About four hours ago, a certified nurse midwife posted asking how people were doing, and responses included:

sterilization consults absolutely flooding my open slots

Just scheduled my Mirena replacement (due in March but wanted to get it done pre-inauguration) and the first available appointments were already in January. Snuck in just under the wire. Hopefully I can ride this one thru menopause.

My brother texted me this morning with questions about getting a vasectomy. It's going to be crazy.

My Catholic "health" system is no longer going to cover vasectomies or birth control under employee insurance.

I'm calling my OB next week

Call them tomorrow or you’ll have to wait and you may run out of time.
If you need some form of reproductive care, schedule it now if you possibly can.

I have had a hist. I am still getting a stock of Plan B just in case. Not for me, but for my friends who aren't fixed.

I picked up generic Levonorgestrel Tablets on Amazon, a four pack for $25.50 (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0B1D4BJ76/), but it may not be here before December. There are various generic versions available on Amazon currently, with various shipping dates.

A bargain at twice the price, but … yeah.

"Amazon Basic Care Levonorgestrel 1.5 mg – Emergency Contraceptive Tablet, Morning After Pill, 1 Count" is $15.99 US at Amazon.com, although that leaves an electronic record.

I've used Amazon to deliver brand-name Plan B to a friend in the US using my account based in Canada. If using a pickup locker, that might be a way to obscure the recipient's identity. I do have friends in the US that will receive, repackage, and ship items for me, if needed.

I’m not only menopausal but also in a very blue state, so using both of these to obscure some easy tracing seems a good use of my privilege. (I do understand that it wouldn’t stand up to *competent* tracing.)

But definitely something people should consider.

Have you priced Ella, for higher-weight folks? I haven't yet and I'm sure my pack is expired.

Time was, barrier contraception was only available to married couples with a prescription. Since a whole lot of the intent is to make sure majority status for whites is maintained, I would not be surprised if all forms of barrier contraception wind up with a legal status like Schedule I narcotics.

A friend of mine posted yesterday: "Plan B One-Step is available as a non-prescription (over-the-counter or OTC) drug. Doesn't matter whose shelf it sits on, but maybe do something NOW (or at least before January 20) to help make sure it's an accessible one for those who need it, yeah?"

And also a link to aidaccess.org: "Aid Access works with a team of US registered abortion providers who will provide FDA registered abortion pills to people all 50 states." Done discretely by mail.

No telling how long either option will remain viable post-inauguration.

Reminder for everyone reading this that Plan B is only effective up to about 155 lbs. Ella is the product for higher-weight people and even that is only effective up to about 195 lbs. Above that weight, Planned Parenthood recommends emergency IUD insertion. I need to see what Shout Your Abortion recommends - taking multiple doses of Plan B or Ella has been discussed and certainly will have unpleasant side effects but I don't know about safety concerns.
